As part of the CEPII’s research program, the incumbent will carry out empirical studies and academic researches on international trade.
On one hand, he/she will contribute the development of databases created by the CEPII:

  • On international trade (BACI, online data rate ...)
  • On the analytical tools of trade and specialization (TradeProd, Trade Unit Values...)
  • This aspect of the mission includes the regular updating of these databases, a continuous improvement of the statistical methods that are implemented, an effort to develop new databases to meet the needs of the research carried out at the CEPII and the promotion of these databases among the interested public (documentation, update of web pages, answers to users’ questions…).

    On the other hand, he/she will participate in studies carried out at CEPII and conduct personal academic research on international trade. Possible topics might be the analysis of countries’ specialization, the study of firms’ strategies in global markets, the assessment of the consequences of globalization and trade barriers…

    The incumbent will promote and disseminate research using a variety of supports: academic journals, reports, publications for the general public, communications for business economists and the press, and participation in working groups.


    He/she must be interested in economic policy, which he/she should be able to address, and must be able to adapt his/her own research interests to the needs of the CEPII.

     
    Requirements  
     
    Candidates should have:
    a PhD or a Master's degree in International economics or in Economic modelling.

    They must have good knowledge of international macroeconomic and trade theories. They must be at ease with economic theory, econometrics and partial equilibrium modelling. Notions of CGE modelling would be appreciated. Good notions of GAMS, Stata, SAS or similar software are requested.


    Teamwork must be appreciated, and excellent drafting skills in English are needed. Knowledge of French will be appreciated but not required. A strong interest in international economic affairs and economic policy, clear reasoning, the ability to take responsibilities and personal commitment are essential in meeting the job requirements.
